Killers (2010)

Heigl left holding a gun between her forefingers, Kutcher with a gun held close to his chest.

Killers is the K of the month and another that I feel that I have to defend. This one stars Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher. This is an action rom-com that has Jen Kornfeldt (Heigl) meeting Spencer Aimes (Kutcher) on vacation. Their quick romance leads to an equally quick marriage. What Jen doesn't know is that Spencer is a spy that gives it all up to be with her, until his past tries to interfere with their future.

This is another movie that has gotten generally bad reviews and I can't seem to understand why. I wasn't even really looking forward to this one as I'm not the biggest fan of Kutcher. But I loved his performance in this movie. He managed to be funny without being stupid. He was a very believable character. Heigl was also pretty good in this but she had the generic feel of her characters in other romantic comedies. Tom Selleck was a great addition as Jen's father and Catherine O'Hara as Jen's mom was perfect. I probably laughed the most at her character.

The story itself is a little generic but has its own personality. Having the spy want to settle down is normal but Spencer actually desires it. He does have back up plans since he knew that he couldn't stay out of it forever, but he truly desired to just settle down in a suburban home. The action was really fun, too. It was a nice break from action that tries really hard (even if it is successful) and just enjoy a gunfight with people cracking jokes about their marriage.

The plot was easyish to figure out but it did have some nice turns to it. I'd have to say that I enjoyed Killers and I might even watch it again. It was a nice comedy movie that gave me some good laughs and that is what comedy should be about.

Tomorrow is The Lincoln Lawyer!
