Case 39 (2009)

The C movie for the month is Case 39 starring Renée Zellweger, Bradley Cooper, and Ian McShane.

The idea for this movie is that a social worker, Emily Jenkins (Zellweger), gets a case to help a frightened girl away from her abusive parents. Once she does, she takes her in to her home while they look for a foster home but Emily discovers that there is more to this case than she bargained for.

Case 39 is a typical horror/mystery that has a simple plot. The plot itself isn't too difficult to figure out and from there it is a struggle to not like characters too much in case they go away.

The acting in the movie is pretty good, except for Zellweger who does a really nice job as Emily.

Overall, the movie gets your heart racing at times (maybe it's just me), the plot advances quite slowly at first and then picks up at a decent pace, and people die. Which really doesn't give much away considering that it's a horror. It happens. The movie's antagonist is interesting but done before and the movie doesn't really leave anything to wonder about.

Case 39 is a pretty decent watch if you're looking for something to pass the time on a weekend. I enjoyed it but I probably won't be watching it again.

Coming tomorrow is Neil Patrick Harris in Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog!

    1. I never heard of this movie either until I was searching Netflix for a C titled movie. And I like Renee as well. My favorite of her's is Chicago. And the movie was a bit scary. It definitely had my heart going.
