So I loved this movie. But I loved it because it wasn't amazing. It was good.

Movies tend to need to be amazing now. They must be better than everything that has come before and how dare it if it is anything less than that. But that's not necessarily what movies should be. They tell a story. It doesn't have to be an amazing one. Just a good one. And Godzilla is never going to be anything more than a giant monster that represents a warning for nuclear capability. Godzilla was born in a culture that had just experienced the introduction of the atomic age first hand. He is dated and well used. So a new Godzilla movie isn't going to be anything completely groundbreaking or fantastic.

That being said, Godzilla was a pretty fun movie. It did have elements that were unexpected, some that weren't very surprising (an almost completely male cast), and some really wicked cgi. Godzilla was amazing looking. And he is barely on screen. Which was wonderful since he isn't the main character. It's mostly just about the humans not trying to get stepped on. But keeping him out of the shots most of the time gives you a nice amount of suspense.

Godzilla was a super good movie. It wasn't amazing. You won't leave enlightened. But I can say that if you love Godzilla or like movies like this, there is a good chance that you will be fulfilled.
