Everyone in Fairy Tail has heart and Lucy is no exception. While all of the magic in the show is impressive, Lucy's ability to connect with her spirits is amazing. She shows them love and kindness that seems to be rare amongst celestial wizards, with some of them even fighting for her before she even makes a contract with them.
Her story with her father is really important. Not only did she leave wealth and family to find what she wanted, she went back to settle things which is harder to do. She cares for her father but that love is also very strict, not letting him take advantage of her and also making sure that he knew how much she disapproved of his behavior.
She has plenty of strengths that she gives the team and the guild. Her celestial spirits compliment her physique. She isn't as strong physically as the others in combat; the celestial spirits manifest her willpower and own spiritual strength as her fighting power, letting her last as long as even Natsu in some of the fights.
It's nice having a story like this being told (mostly) through her perspective instead of being through Natsu's.
